Delta County resident, Virginia Lee Bernadou, passed away peacefully
on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Hospice Care Center in
Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 83 years of age.
A memorial service honoring Virginia's life will be held in May
with details to be announced.
Virginia Lee Litwiller was born to Earl Milo and Esther Naomi
(Storey) Litwiller on November 7, 1929, in Manhattan, Kansas. She
spent her childhood and attended public schools in Wichita, Kansas.
Virginia furthered her education at American Business College also
in Wichita. She also took several courses at Metropolitan State College
in Denver.
On November 24, 1949, Virginia married Edmond Pierre Bernadou
in Wichita, Kansas. They resided in Wichita for eight years before
moving to Denver in 1957. The Bernadou's retired to Cedaredge
in 1992.
Virginia found employment as a secretary for several companies
including: Coleman Company and Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS;
Western Realty Company, Northwest Baptist Church and American
Medical Center all of Denver, CO. Virginia's last employment with
Rocky Flats spanned over 22 years, working as a secretary in Safety
and Utilities Department and later in the Education Department
where she wrote and taught Supervisory Training programs. She retired
from Rocky Flats in 1990.
Virginia was a member of several organizations including being a
lifetime member of the Surface Creek Historical Society, and member
of the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church where
she shared her love for music and the adult drama liturgies. She was
also a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed volunteer work in her community as well as reading to
shut-ins, oil and acrylic painting, and traveling and camping when
she was younger.
Virginia is survived by her husband of more than 63 years, Ed -
mond P. Bernadou of Cedaredge, CO; her daughter, Renee Bidstrup
of Los Angeles, CA, and her son, Paul Bernadou of Huntington
Beach, CA.
Mrs. Bernadou was preceded in death by her parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Virginia's
memory to the Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church,
Elevator Fund, P.O. Box 369, Cedaredge, Colorado 81413.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral
Service and Crematory.
