Earl was born in 1927, in St.
Paul Minnesota to Philip and
Myrtle West. He died on April
9th, of congestive heart failure.
His early years were spent in
Minnesota in a farm house with
no running water or electricity.
His family moved to Washington
state when he was a teenager. He
was drafted towards the end of
World War II. After the war he attended Washington State College
(now known as WSU), where he received his Master's degree in
Psychology. One of his first jobs after college was working at
Rainier State School with the mentally handicapped.
When he married his first wife, Ramona, he gained two step-children
and later had two daughters. In 1962 he moved his family to
Grand Junction where he worked at the State Home and Training
School (now called the Regional Center) as a Psychologist and a s
Director of Home Living and Training. He was respected and admired
by all who knew him and received an award naming him
"Boss of the Year" by the Western Slope Chapter of American
Business Women.
Earl married his second wife, Jean, in 1978 and they enjoyed many
years of fishing, camping, hiking, four wheeling, dancing, golfing
and traveling. Earl especially enjoyed growing flowers and toma -
toes which he generously shared with neighbors and friends. He was
pleased to have a wine named after him called Henry Earl.
Earl was very independent and able to stay in his own home be -
cause of the selfless devotion of granddaughter, Kathy Seleske and
friend, Maria Treto. Many thanks also to special friends, Bob
Simpleman and Pat Reddick.
