County, Colorado when he was
three years old. They moved several times, from Peagreen to Rog -
ers Mesa, where Bud and his brothers worked on 80 acres of fruit
trees. In 1950, the family moved to Grand Junction where Bud
graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1952.
After graduation, Bud served in the Army from August 1956 to
July 1958. On November 23, 1958, Bud and Constance Lee Mahnke
were married. They had three sons, Scott, Eric, and Grant. The
couple celebrated 54 years of being together in November, 2012.
Bud was a carpenter by trade and he retired from School District
51 Maintenance Department in December, 1999 after 23 years. By
nature, he was a fisherman, gardener, and loved all things mechanical.
He used fishing as the reason for many years of family vacations;
going to Canada five times, and several of the western states. He
was always ready to travel at any time, as long as the destination
was either the mountains or visiting family in Kansas.
He loved gardening, but hated weeds and rocks. Bud was raised on
Western Colorado fruit and vegetables, and was especially fond of
tomatoes from the garden and his brother, Ron’s peaches.
In his younger years, his interests included Texas Hold-em, Five
card stud and Saturdays at Perry’s Auction. His life long love of
classic cars resulted in a collection of vehicles that kept him busy
during retirement.
Bud was easy going and ready to strike up a conversation at any
time with anyone willing to visit. He was fond of good Italian food,
steaks, and seafood, and a faithful armchair quarterback of the Denver
Broncos.
In final analysis, Bud was very proud of his sons and loved h is
grandkids very much.
Survivors are wife, Connie; brother, Ronald (Twila), and sister, Iris
Krogh, all of Grand Junction; sons, Scott (Gretchen), and Hayden of
Littleton, CO; Eric (Margaret); Brian, Arrianna, and Alyson of
Grand Junction; and Erica of Colorado Springs. Bud will also be
missed by his many friends and his cousins from Kansas. He was
predeceased by his parents, and brother, Donald.
At Bud’s request, there will be no services and cremation has taken
place.
We all miss you H.L.
