Gerald L. Gary Dechant, 65, Grand Junction, died March 9,
2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic
Church. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Veterans
Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen “Kathy;” a son, Jesse of Fort
Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Sandra of Grand Junction; his mother,
Dorothy of Aurora; two brothers, Dennis of Aurora and Steven
of Lakeland, Fla.; and two sisters, Marlene Capelle of Sheridan and
Lisa Gray of Aurora.

Gerald "Gary" L. Dechant, 65,
of Grand Junction passed away
March 9th, 2013, after a battle
with cancer.
Gary was born September 8,
1947, in Garden City, Kansas to
Joseph and Dorothy Dechant. He
grew up in Aurora, CO and was a
graduate of St. Pius the Tenth School and Aurora Central High
School. Gary served in the Air Force during Vietnam as an aircraft
loadmaster delivering cargo in and out of the Pacific. After his service,
Gary received a degree in chemistry from UNC, then met and
married the love of his life Kathleen Ray of Montrose on March 13,
1971. They lived in Loveland, Greely and Denver before moving
and settling in Grand Junction CO. He worked as a chemist at the
US Department of Energy as a nuclear quality assurance auditor,
owned a woodworking shop on Colorado Street in downtown Grand
Junction, and was a partner in his auditing company Analytical
Quality Systems. Gary had a passion for woodworking, fishing,
bowling and he shared his talents with everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner, Kathy Dechant of
Grand Junction; his son, Jesse Dechant of Fort Lauderdale; his
daughter, Sandra Dechant of Grand Junction; his mother, Dorothy
Dechant of Aurora; his sister, Marlene Capelle and her husband, Lee
Capelle of Denverl; his brother, Dennis Dechant and his wife, Elly
Dechant of Aurora; his brother, Steve Dechant and his wife, Tasa
Dechant of Lakeland, and his sister, Lisa Gray and her husband,
Mark Gray of Aurora.
He will be missed by all those that love him for his sense o f humor,
calm during a storm, and for his internal strength.
Internment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside
Parkway, Friday March 15th at 10:00 a.m., with full military
honors.
