Otto W. Armstrong, 88, Grand Junction, died March 5, 2013, at
the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Junction.
A memorial service is planned for March 18 at 4 p.m. at the Masonic
Lodge in Grand Junction.
Mr. Armstrong was a retired rancher and farmer, and was also
employed by CSU Extension Service.
He is survived by his companion, Violet Brown; a son Linn of
Palisade; a daughter Vickie of Akron, Colo.; a brother Harvey of
Silt; and seven grandchildren.

Otto Walter Armstrong, a native
of Colorado and a resident of
Grand Junction for over 40 years,
died at the Veterans Hospital on
March 5, following a brief illness.
Otto was born in Roan Creek
(DeBeque area) to John and
Gertrude (Letson) Armstrong in
1924. The Armstrong family was
some of the early settlers of the
Roan Creek area. His grandparents Samuel and Sarah (Cox) migrated
to Roan Creek from Missouri in 1885. Otto rode horses to
school in his early days to the Conn Creek School. After graduating
from Grand Valley High School (Parachute), he joined the Army.
During World War II, he fought with the Army in the Pacific Rim ,
eventually serving with occupation forces in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
After the war, Otto returned to ranching with his father. On November
15, 1947, he married Barbara Linn of Collbran in Glenwood
Springs. They had two children, Otto L. (Linn) and Vickie.
Otto moved his family to the Blue Stone area to farm and ranch.
Otto built their family home on the family's ranch.
As Otto was working for the Colorado State University's Western
Colorado Research Center on Orchard Mesa, Otto moved his family
to Grand Junction in 1969. He continued working at the Research
station until retiring in 1992.
Otto loved hunting, camping, and ATVing in the outdoors. Riding
the Grand Mesa and familiar sites in the DeBeque area were his favorites.
He also enjoyed carpentry as he built some beautiful furniture
for their home. He was also known for the trailers he constructed.
In 1993, Otto and Barbara moved to Arvada to live with their
daughter, Vickie. Otto had been his beloved Barbara's caretaker until
her death in September 1994 in Arvada. Surviving Otto is his son,
Linn and wife, Sharon of Palisade; daughter, Vickie and husband ,
Jim of Akron, Colorado; his brother, Harvey and wife, Susan of Silt,
and his companion, Violet “Vi” Brown of Grand Junction. He is also
survived by grandson, Ari and wife, Jennifer of Westminster; grandsons,
Devin, Dillon and Kevin of Akron, Colorado; granddaughter ,
Rebecca and husband, Braulio of Oklahoma City; Sheri of Sterling;
Nichole and Vickianne of Akron, and three great-grandchildren,
Lily and Ariel of Oklahoma City, and Ian of Greeley.
A memorial service will be held for Otto on March 18, 4:00 p. m.,
at the Masonic Lodge at 2400 Consistory Court in Grand Junction .
He is buried at the Arvada Cemetery beside his wife, Barbara.
