Ethel Galyean, 100, Grand

her home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday
at Grand Junction Memorial
Gardens.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons,
Kenneth of Moab, Utah, and Ray
of Nampa, Idaho; three daughters,
Linda Robinson of Oak Harbor,
Wash., and Glenda Beaird
and Katherine Kellerby, both of
Grand Junction; 28 grandchildren;
61 great-grandchildren; 43
great-great grandchildren; and
one great-great-great grandchild.

Ethel Galyean was born in June
of 1912 in Vox, North Carolina to
L e t c h e r a n d L i t h a C o x . S h e
passed away March 15, 2013 at
her home in Grand Junction.
Ethel lived and attended school
in Vox until eight years old, she
then moved to Baywood, VA,
where she attended school and
worked the switchboard. She met
Preston Galyean at this time, and they married on May 8, 1929, in
Gladeville, VA.
In October 1930, they headed west to Montrose, CO, where they
lived until 1933, when they moved to Telluride. They resided in
Telluride until 1942, when they relocated to Grand Junction, where
they lived in the same house for 70 years.
Ethel had many interests; knitting, quilting, gardening, fishing and
baking, especially cookies for her grandchildren. She always prepared
a meal for anyone when they stopped by. She was a cook at
Orchard Mesa Middle School for many years.
Ethel was preceded in death by Preston, her husband of 66 years;
daughters, Dorothy Miracle, and Evelyn Berry; a son, Ralph, and
two grandsons.
She accredited hard work for her longevity
She is survived by sons, Ken and Ray (Marie); daughters, Linda
(Cleve) Robinson, Glenda (Gary) Beaird, and Katherine (Dale)
K e l l e r b y ; 2 8 g r a n d c h i l d r e n ; 6 1 g r e a t - g r a n d c h i l d r e n ; 43
great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-great-grandchild. Ethel
was loved and will be missed by many.
Graveside services will be at Memorial Gardens, March 22, 1:00
p.m.
