Mitchel Emmett Calvick of Eagle died in a Glenwood hospital July 12, following an illness of two weeks.
Born October 29, 1875 in Norway, Mr. CALVICK came to the United States when he was 19 years of age and had lived in the Eagle and Garfield areas for 55 years. For a time, he ranched in the Sweetwater region, then moved to Sweetwater Lake, to manage the resort there, for the late Paul GREGG, noted western artist.
When he left the resort, he came to Eagle, where he bought and managed Calvick's Cafe, which became famous throughout Western Colorado an an eating house. Leasing the business, he went to Glenwood and opened a restaurant there for a few years, then returned to Eagle to take over his business here.
He was married to Miss Magdaline JOHNSON. When she died in 1939 Mr. CALVICK retired from the restaurant business, and for the past 12 years had made his home in Eagle and Glenwood Springs.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Idella LESSARD of Leadville and Mrs. Thelma THOMAS of Hot Springs, New Mexico; and five grandsons, two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Eagle Monday afternoon, by Rev. Henry BAKER of Glenwood Springs, and directed by Farnum Mortuary of that city. Paul [sic.] bearers were Wm. H. LUBY, Chester MAYER, W. M. WILSON, J. D. ALLEN, George G. WHITE and Fred COLBY. Burial was in the Eagle cemetery.

MIKE CALVICK DIED TODAY.
Mike CALVICK passed away in a Glenwood Springs hospital this morning, according to word received by Eagle friends. He had been ill for a short time, and entered the hospital a week ago.
Mr. CALVICK had made his home here for many years, and at one time owned and operated Calvick's Cafe here in the location of the present Lieber Cafe. Before coming to Eagle in the middle 1920s, he managed the Sweetwater Lake Resort for the late Paul GREGG of Denver. After leaving Eagle, he opened a cafe in Glenwood. Poor health, which led to amputation of one leg at the knee, forced Mr. CALVICK to retire, and during the past several months, he has been living at the Norgaard Nursing Home here.
Mrs. CALVICK preceded him in death, and he is survived by two daughters, Idella LESSARD of Leadville and Thelma THOMAS of Hot Springs, N. Mex. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
