LONGTIME EAGLE VALLEY RESIDENT CINDY LEE BRENNAN DIES AT 46, by Marka Moser.
Cindy Lee Brennan, of Gypsum, a longtime Eagle Valley resident, died Tuesday of breast cancer at Saint Lukes Hospital in Denver. She was 46.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Vail Bible Church.
Blessed with a bright Scandinavian smile, wonderful sense of humor, perennial optimism and a zest for life, Cindy fought a valiant battle against cancer, said her close friends Michelle MALONEY and Honore EVERLY.
"She was organized, energetic and multi-talented," said Maloney, whose strong friendship with BRENNAN was cemented during her breast cancer battle. "She had a smile that lit up the room, one that everyone could feel. Nothing was too challenging or difficult; no job too big or cumbersome. She gave lots of energy and love to her family and all those people around her, whether she had known them for 25 years or it was a new friend. Cindy was a vivacious person with such a warm heart who loved life."
EVERLY, who shared backyards with BRENNAN when she lived in Eagle-Vail, remembers her close friend as a gallant, proud mother.
"What brought her the most joy was talking about her kids," EVERLY added. "Cindy was a believer and a fighter who had a good time in life. She was such a vital part of the growing up history of Vail."
Born Nov. 3, 1951 in Kansas, BRENNNAN attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. As Miss Ski the Rockies, BRENNAN traveled throughout the United States to promote the Colorado ski industry. She moved to Vail in 1972 as the founder and producer of the first Women's Freestyle Ski competition and was featured in Sports Illustrated. BRENNNAN also modeled for the Ford Agency.
The same year she moved to Vail, she met her husband Terry while they were riding chair 2. They were married in 1980. As co-founder and owner of Brennan Landscaping, BRENNAN was a gifted gardener. She was the only person to have received three consecutive Betty Ford Alpine Garden awards.
In addition to landscaping, BRENNAN worked for Vail Associates for the last 15 years. A year ago, she founded the Vail Valley Swim Team, where her two children, Laura, 14, and Bryan, 7, are active members. In addition to her husband and children, BRENNAN is survived by her parents, Beth and Sid SCOTT of Boulder, a brother, Waverly SCOTT, and his children, Brooke, Kyle and Lucas, of Kansas.
"Kids were her focus," said Terry BRENNAN, who explained that the doctors were baffled by his wife's aggressive cancer. A test on Nov. 4 showed no sign of the previous cancer, Terry BRENNAN explained. However, while she was hospitalized in Denver, the volume of cancer in her lungs doubled in 24 hours. "It was so fast. I'm just glad she didn't suffer at the end.
"Cindy loved this valley," Terry BRENNAN added. "She was such a valuable employee because she was easy to work with and everyone liked her. Cindy made things happen. She volunteered for everything and could never say no to something involving her kids."
BRENNAN was such a special person, added Margo PETERS, who saw BRENNAN every day while she provided daycare for Bryan BRENNAN. "We'll all miss her terribly."
The Monarch Society in Denver is in charge of arrangements. Cremation is planned, with ashes to be scattered in Kansas and in the Vail area.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the FirstBank of Vail in care of the Cindy Brennan Fund or to the charity of your choice in Brennan's memory.
