Don Serrano, 81, of Fruita,
passed away on April 18, 2013,
surrounded by his family at the
Hospice Care Center in Grand
Junction.
Don was born in Coyote, New
Mexico to Placido and Gorgonia
Serrano. He attended schools in
Fruita where he met the love of
his life, Sylvia Medina. They
were married on June 29, 1950.
Don worked for the Denver &
Rio Grande railroad and later as a
r a n c h f o r e m a n o n r a n c h e s i n
Avon, Basalt and Gypsum.
On July 20th, 1965, Don was severely
injured in an accident at a
cement block plant in Dotsero,

and both of his legs below

didn't slow Don down. Through
rehabilitation he walked again; so
well that most people didn't know he had artificial legs. He studied
small engine repair and you could find him in his garage everyday
working on something and often chatting with his many friends and
neighbors.
Don loved working in his shop, hunting, fishing, watching sports
but most of all he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia, and his two daughters,
Carol Serrano-Aarness (Doug) and Jeanie Lister (John) and
son, Anthony Serrano (Mindy); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grand -
children and one brother, Larry Serrano.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five daughters, Mary Ann,
Rita, Sarah, Katherine and Anna Ballard, and three brothers, Isidore,
