Gloria Faye Tappan, 73, of Palisade,
Colorado, passed away
comfortably at St. Mary's Hospital
on March 22, 2013.
She was born February 17, 1940,
to the late Clyde Russell and
Mamie Houston in Portales, New
Mexico. Gloria graduated from
high school in Carlsbad, New
Mexico. She married Darrell
Dean Ryan and they later divorced. She married J. Tell Tappan in
1963, and their jobs required transfers to several locations including
Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Las Vegas, Nevada. They finally
settled in Palisade in 1970. As well as working on the peach farm
they bought together that year, Gloria took an entry-level position
for Union Carbide and worked her way up to management before
she retired in 1995. Tell Tappan passed away in 1989, and after
Gloria's retirement, she found companionship and friendship in
Larry Clark of Palisade. They traveled together and supported ea ch
other. Larry passed away two days prior to Gloria.
Gloria loved animals, and she would always talk to and treat her
pets as one of the family. She was passionate about politics and current
affairs, and would often engage in lively debates with who ever
was willing. She was strong in her opinions and beliefs, and was
fiercely independent. She enjoyed trips to gambling cities to play
blackjack and to warm up from cold Palisade winters.

brother-in-law, Woodie MacArthur of Spur, Texas; her son, Ricky
Ryan and daughter-in-law, Wendee Ryan of Grand Junction, Colorado;
two grandsons; two nieces, and three great-nephews. She is
also survived by many friends whom she considered her family.
There will be a viewing at Callahn-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson
Road, Grand Junction from 9 - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
March 27. Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. The final resting place
for Gloria will be the family plot in Spur, Texas.

Gloria Faye Tappan, 73, Palisade, died March 22, 2013, at St.
Mary’s Hospital.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m., with services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Interment will be in Spur, Texas.
Ms. Tappan was a human resources manager.
Survivors include one son, Ricky Ryan of Grand Junction; one
sister, Linda MacArthur of Spur; and two grandchildren.
