With great love and sadness, we
announce the passing of Doreen
Nicholson. She died peacefully at
The Fountains Assisted & Independent
Living Community in
Grand Junction, May 30th, 2013.
Doreen was born in Shipdham,
England on November 6th, 1926.
In 1944, she was married to the
l o v e o f h e r l i f e , I . J . " N i c k "
Nicholson, whom she met during his deployment to England in
World War II with the U.S.A.F. On July 3, 1946, Doreen arrived in
New York City to begin her life with Nick in the United States. The
young couple lived in Boulder, Colorado for a short while before
moving their family to DeBeque, Colorado where they made many
lifelong friends. In 1959, Nick and Doreen moved their family to
Grand Junction, Colorado, where they lived happily until the end of
their days.
Doreen became heavily involved in the English Club while living
in Grand Junction. She met and made very dear friends with other
English women who were living in the area - they got together often
to enjoy tea, baked goods, and conversation.
Doreen's greatest accomplishment was her family. She was a caring
and thoughtful mother to her children, a loyal, loving wife to her
husband, and a supportive and giving grandmother to her grandchildren.
She brought love and joy into the lives of her family, while
also helping them to grow and learn.
Doreen is survived by her sister, Jaye (Bass) Atkins of England;
her children, Michelle (Ken) Bingham, Stephen, John, and Linda
(Dave) Mantlo. She also leaves behind her 14 grandchildren, Nathan
and Ashlee Bingham, Rich Mantlo and Jaydon Nicholson of Grand
Junction; Ryan Mantlo of Wilmington, NC; Jefre Mantlo (USAF) of
Ogden, UT; Taylor and Blake Nicholson of Fort Collins, CO; Brit -
tani, Evan, Allie, and Brooke Nicholson of Firestone, CO; Nicole
(Mantlo) Pisaniello of Myrtle Beach, SC; Tiffani (Mantlo) Pestotnik
of Salt Lake City, UT, and five great-grandchildren.
Doreen will be remembered by her family and friends as a beauti -
ful, great humored, giving, and caring woman. She will live on forever
through our memories, and will be deeply loved and missed.
