Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 6B Obituary - August 7, 2013

Born in Thurman, Iowa, the
third child to Glen and Mina
Acord, he moved to Colorado at
the age of five where the family
settled in Fruita. He attended
school in Fruita, then moved to
Pueblo to work for a Milk
Trucking company and then was
drafted into the Army, serving
two years in Korea. After being discharged, he returned to Grand
Junction where he met and married Ruth Case in 1955. From this
union, three sons were born, Mike (Jayne) of Rifle, CO; Rick (Sue)
of Red Bluff, CA, and Mitch (Pam) of Grand Junction, CO.
He retired after a 29 year career at the VA Hospital. Chuck and
Ruth spent eight years traveling and camping in Arizona. When it
became too difficult to travel, they spent time in the summer camping
locally.
Chuck’s hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting and baseball.
In later years, he enjoyed his Saturday breakfast with extended family
at local restaurants. He enjoyed his membership at the Oddfellow
Lodge, and served as Noble Grand for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a sister, Verda Schreiner; his
three sons, and their families which include seven grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded
in death by his great-grandson, Logan Acord.
The family would like to thank the staff of the CLC Unit at the VA
Medical Center, for Chuck’s wonderful care while he was so ill. The
family appreciates donations to this fine organization.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, August 9, at 1 :00
p.m. at the Western Colorado Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2830
Riverside Parkway in Grand Junction. A reception will follow at
Oddfellow Lodge.
