March 30, 1920 - January 28, 2014

Lewis Delbert Kemry was born in his grandparent's cabin near Steamboat Springs on March 30, 1920. He passed away January 28, 2014 in Steamboat Springs.
He attended country schools and helped with all the farm/ranch chores until he graduated from High School in 1939. With the money he made on a wheat crop he was able to buy his first Hereford calf. He went on to become one of the top Hereford breeders in the nation.
In 1944 he enlisted in the army. He proudly served with the Rainbow Division, which was famous for the liberation of the Dachaw Concentration Camp. He was discharged in 1946 and returned home to continue ranching.
He met his wife Betty Cary and they were married on Sept 24, 1950. They had four children and continued raising Herefords and haying. Around their 50th Anniversary they sold the ranch and retired. They spent the years moving between winters in Grand Junction and summers in Steamboat. He had seen the changes from doing everything by manual labor with the aid of horses, to new way of having the equipment do the work for you.
Lewis was always ready to go fishing when the chores were done and always caught the most fish. In the fall he would go hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Alta and infant son Wayne.
He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Irene (Kemry) and husband Iven Tucker, and sons Delbert & wife Debbie Kemry, James & wife Linda Kemry and his sister's Eunice Dorr & Harriet Aspergren.
Grandchildren, Daniel (Katlyn) Kemry, Daryl (Sabrina) Kemry, Scott (Candi) Tucker, Jason (Jolene) Tucker, Kristi (Chris) O'Rourke.
