Wayne Meeker passed away on
March 30, 2013, after suffering a
stroke.
He is survived by his son, Guy
Meeker and his daughter, Shari
Peek.
Wayne was born and raised in
Ossining, NY to Ross and Edith
Meeker. After graduating from
Ossining High School in 1953, he
became part of the Air Force Reserve while working for Associated
Press. Shortly thereafter he enlisted and served in the Marine Corp.
before going to school at Western State College in Gunnison, CO .
In 1956 he married my mom. They were married in December of
1956 and were together for 49 years until mom passed away in
2005. Dad received his PHD from the University of Colorado in
1976 and worked at Mesa State College for almost 33 years teach -
ing Sociology, Social Problems, and Political Thought.
Dad loved exploring the state of Colorado and our childhood w as
filled with trips to all parts of the Western United States. Dad loved
playing baseball and loved watching baseball. He attended all my
baseball games as a youth as well as my sister's softball games . It
was a blessing to be in Grand Junction and be able to watch the
JUCO World Series every year together. Later in life, dad loved to
watch his beloved New York Yankees on satellite TV. My dad was
best known for his wit and his humor. We will miss him dearly.
We invite all those individuals wishing to pay last respects to our
father to join us on July 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Colorado
Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Pkwy., Grand Junction,
CO 81501.
