John Tom Martinez
Tom was born November 21, 1965, to Pete and Donna Martinez in Fruita, CO. He passed away at home in Fruita, Thursday, August 15th.He was preceded in death by his father, Pete. Tom was 47 years old.
Tom graduated from Fruita Monument High School, Class of 1983. He later met and married Debbie Jarvis in Fruita, CO. They later divorced. While together, they lived for several years in Parachute, CO. As a family, they enjoyed the outdoors, especially the natural beauty of Western Colorado.
Tom was an avid sportsman all his life. He loved to watch
NASCAR and the Broncos. He also liked to play golf with his
friends and family. Elk and mule deer hunting were a family tradition in the fall and Tom was a terrific camp fire cook.
Tom worked in construction and as a lease operator for the oil and natural gas industry. His work eventually led him to reside in Rifle, CO where he became an active member of the Moose Lodge. Because of his easy going personality, and quick wit, Tom had many friends in his life.
Tom is survived by his mother, Donna, of Fruita; his brothers Larry of Fruita, Jim (Vicky) of Rifle, Chris of Fruita; sister Joyce (Fred Herrera) of Fruita. In addition, Tom has four surviving step-children David in addition to eleven grand children. Tom also has several extended family members including many nieces and nephews. At the time of his death, Tom was surrounded by family members. Tom will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
A mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21st at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 433 E. Aspen Avenue, Fruita, CO. A brief graveside ceremony will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita CO. Flowers may be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
