Former Minturn Girl Killed in Accident

Wanda Lee Evans, granddaughter of Mrs. Henry Elliott and the late Mr. Elliott of Minturn, was one of four young people to meet instant death when their car skidded broadside into a semi-trailer a miles west of Idaho Springs Monday night.

The four teenagers had been for a ride after spending the evening at a skating ring in Idaho Springs and were returning home when the car, driven by 16-year-old Doug Ward, went out of control and skidded into the path of the large truck, which pushed the car back 42 feet, before coming to a stop. The right side of the car was peeled back. All four apparently died instantly.

Miss Ward was the 16-year-old daughter of Sgt. and Mrs. Don Evans, formerly of Minturn, and a granddaughter of Mrs. Hank Elliott of Gore Creek. Her father is stationed at Camp Carson and the family home is in Idaho Springs. A sister, Linda Kay and a brother, Michael also survive.

Services will be held for the four popular young people in the Idaho Springs high school Friday afternoon, and interment services will be held in Minturn on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. for Miss Evans.

The three companions were Patsy Welch, 16; Robert Eisner, 16 and Doug Ward, 16.
