Rosa Kathryn “Kay” Hageman passed away at the Colorado State Veterans Home at Fitzsimons in Denver on May 11. She was 92. She was honored for her WWII service in the Navy with a procession of care givers who escorted her flag draped body from the home and saluted her as she left the premises. This dignified military Mother’s Day send-off was very fitting as it symbolized two of the things Kay loved most, her family and her country. Through her married years, Kay was well known for decades, wearing many hats, in the United Methodist Church in Oak Creek, which she helped build. Kay also earned a 50-year honor for dedication to Eastern Star throughout the state of Colorado. She is probably most famous in Oak Creek for her delicious popcorn balls each Halloween and Christmas. Kay played softball on the women’s team into her 60’s and she loved dancing. She is survived by her four children, Sylvia [Hageman] Lincoln, Thomas Hageman, George Hageman, and Robert Hageman, her four grandchildren, and her great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held in Oak Creek this summer.
