Raymond Fredrick Dionne of
Clifton, CO passed away on September
10, 2013. He was born on
February 3, 1934, in Menominee,
Michigan to the late Clarence
Mores and Mary (Venne) Dionne.
He was raised in the Upper Peninsula
of Michigan. In the summertime
he went to Door County in Wisconsin to work on his sister,
Dorothy’s dairy farm. When he was 17, he enlisted in the Navy a nd
served during the Korean conflict. He was stationed on the USS
Hugh Purvis DD709, where he went through Boiler man School “B”
in Philadelphia, PA. After his tour of duty with the Navy, he e nlisted
in the Army in Oakland, CA. He became a Refrigeration Specialist
and went back to Korea. After being discharged from the
Army, he stayed in the Oakland area and became an iron worker. He
was a rigger in bridge and building construction.
In 1961, he met the love of his life, Peggy Glover. They were married
on June 10, 1961. They have been married for 52 years. In
1966, Ray had an unfortunate surgery and Ray’s lower half was
paralyzed for the rest of his life, never to work again. Ray took over
the house, while Peggy worked. They moved from Lodi, CA to
Grand Junction, CO in 1989.
He liked to travel, camp, fish and enjoyed riding his bicycle , dune
buggy and motorcycle in the desert of Death Valley, CA in the winter
time.
Ray belonged to lodges and clubs of Paralyzed Vets of America
and was a life member of Zia Chapter 156957; American Vets life
member Post CA 56; and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 3981, CO. Ray volunteered at the VA Hospital in Grand
Junction, CO during the decade of the 1990’s. He was a member o f
Emmanuel Baptist Church, Grand Junction.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; five brothers, Cyril (Joan ) Dionne
of Panorama City, CA; Clarence Dionne of Marinette, WI;
William (Joan) Dionne of Marengo, IL; Donald (Barbara) Dionne of
Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Gordon (Ardelle) Dionne of Port Washington,
WI; two sisters, Dorothy Jeanquart of Forestville, WI and La-
Verene (Ralph) Emmes of Menominee, MI, and many nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death b y
his parents; five brothers, Everett, Robert, Randolph, Harold a nd
France Dionne; and three sisters, Lucille England, Lorraine Cal cari
and Elizabeth Schulke.
A viewing will be Monday, September 16 from 5-7:00 p.m. at
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at Emmanuel
Baptist Church on D Road.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial contributio ns be
made to Hopewest and Palliative Care of Western Colorado or to the
TLC Center at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Junction, CO.

Raymond F. Dionne, 79, Clifton, died Sept. 10, 2013, at the
Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast
Mortuary. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday the Emmanuel Baptist
Church. Burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery
of Western Colorado.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy, five brothers, Cyril of North
Hollywood, Calif., JR of Marinette, Wis., Billy of Marengo, Ill., Donald
of Sturgeon Bay, Wis. and Gorden of Port Washington, Wis.;
and two sisters, Laverne Emmes of Menominee, Mich. and Dorothy
M. Jeanquart of Forestville, Wis.
