Elaine Byers, 84, Grand Junction, died Sept. 19, 2013, at her
home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary
Chapel. Interment will be at New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
Ms. Byers was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Michael of Grand Junction; one
daughter, Terrie Kloberdanz of Grand Junction; her mother, Elsie
Hocker of Grand Junction; one brother, John Hocker of Grand
Junction; one sister, Shirley Hickman of Elk Grove, Calif.; six
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Elaine Byers, a long time resident
of Grand Junction passed
away today at her home with her
family at her side.
She was the first-born to Elsi e
Ford Hocker and John Garrett
Hocker on November 20, 1928 in
R i f l e , C o l o r a d o . T h e f a m i l y
moved to Fruitvale in March,
1936, and to Grand Junction in
1943. Elaine attended school in
Fruitvale and graduated from
Grand Junction High School.
She married Maynard G. Byers
on October 13, 1946. Maynard
worked for Public Service Co. for
41 years, retiring in 1988 (lived in
Palisade 1954-1964). They were
married for 56 years. The "Love
of Elaine's Life" preceded her in
death August 14, 2002.
Elaine had many interests, talents
and projects throughout her
life. She was an avid member of
the Junior Women's Club for many years, which helped many elderly
members of the community and others. She loved to crochet,
knit, sew, play Bridge, and especially loved to decorate her home for
every holiday season, as well as traveling. She was a loving, g entle,
soft-spoken lady and loved by her friends and family. She will be
greatly missed.
Her first love was for her children, grandchildren, and great -grand
children. Taking care and enjoying them took priority over working
outside of her home. She was employed by Darnell Optical Co. fo r
several years before her twins were born. They are: Terrie Joan (Byers)
Kloberdanz (husband Sam Lee Kloberdanz) and Michael Glen
Byers (wife Margaret Scheib Byers). All living in Grand Junction.
She has a mother, brother, and sister still living. Elsie Hocker Halvorson,
Grand Junction; John G. Hocker , Grand Junction; and
Shirley J. (Hocker) Hickman of Pine Grove, California. One sist er,
Mary Ellen Hocker, preceded her in death in 1944.
Elaine has three grandsons. Christian Kloberdanz (Allyson) of Sarasota,
Florida; Michael Kyle Byers and Nicoholas Glen Byers,
Grand Junction; three step- grandsons: Robbie Anderson (Jennifer),
Portland, OR, Craig Anderson (Hye Kyung), Las Vegas, NV, and
Kenny Anderson (Shanin), Soap Lake, Washington. A great-granddaughter,
Coral Belle Byers, Grand Junction. great step-grandch ildren
Olly, Haeley, Atley, and Bea Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013, 1:00
p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Grand Junction. Burial to follow
at the New Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
