Georgia Marie (Nimon) Filter was born into a Colorado pioneer family on April 23, 1926.
Her parents were George Nimon, originally of Leadville and "Minnie" (Schrupp) Nimon, of Conger Mesa, near McCoy. Goergia was raised in Eagle and attended Eagle High School, graduating in 1944. She continued her education in nursing, then switched to business at Barnes Business School in Denver.
She met and married James Filter in 1947, in Littleton. Georgia and Jim raised their three children; Carol (Filter) King, Richard and David in Littleton and then returned to Lake Creek, near Edwards, in 1978, where Georgia lived until spring of 2013. During the past year Georgia resided at Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale, where she passed peacefully in her sleep at age 88, on June 17.
Georgia, along with husband Jim, was a charter member of Gracious Savior Lutheran Church in Lake Creek. They had also been charter members of Ascension Lutheran Church of Littleton.
Georgia was employed as an executive secretary by South Suburban Board of Realtors in Littleton. After her return to Eagle County she worked briefly for the Vail Board of Realtors. Later, She was employed by The First Bank of Eagle County in Eagle and retired shortly after that bank became Wells Fargo Bank in 1997.
Georgia loved gardening and being outdoors in general. She avidly enjoyed telemark skiing, showshoeing, ice skating and hiking. She also participated in bowling leagues, playing cards, fishing, walking her dog and reading a good book. Georgia never said no to any adventure that came her way. She was overjoyed to be a grandmother and great grandmother. Georgia hosted holiday dinners at her home in Lake Creek until she was 83, always enjoying family gatherings, the more often the better. It was important to her to keep her family close.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, also of Lake Creek; her brothers Jim Nimon of Eagle and Wayne Nimon of Littleton; sisters Gertrude (Coe) Gloshen of Phoenix, AZ, and Dorothy Hostetter of Sheephorn Creek, near Radium.
She is survived by her brother William Nimon of Pueblo; daughter Carol King, son Rick (Karen) Filter and son David Filter; her granddaughters Jessica (Filter) Weaver (Scott), Rebecca (Filter) Marshall (Jason) and step-granddaughter Erica (Ennis) Hearder (Richard). The most recent love of her life was her great grandson Logan James Weaver, who visited her often during her last year, bringing her immense joy and laughter. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.
Georgia will be greatly missed by her family and a wide array of friends, former coworkers and acquaintances, all of whom held her sweetness very dear. She was a kind soul, highly respected and well-known throughout the Eagle Valley.
A memorial service and celebration of Georgia's life will be held later in the summer.
The family respectfully requests that anyone wishing to make a donation in Georgia's memory, direct it to: The Colorado Water Wheel Restoration Foundation, c/o John Comer, 19717 Highway 131, Bond, Colorado 80423.
