DeWitt L. Reader, 76, Fruita, died Sept. 24, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at New Elmwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; one son, Jack of Denver; one daughter, Christie Reader of Fruita; and one sister, Darlene Roberts of St. George, Utah. Mary’s on September 24, with
family by his side.
DeWitt was born at home to
proud parents, Jack and Genevieve
Reader. His entire life was
spent in the Fruita area farming
with his father in younger years
and later working in road construction
for over 25 years. He
became a supervisor for Corn Construction in the 1970’s.
He married his high school sweetheart on December 10, 1955. Two
children, Christie and Jack, arrived in the coming years, completing
his family.
He never outgrew his love of antique cars. Over the years, he restored
many piles of junk! Being most proud of his 1923 Ford Roadster.
He was instrumental in establishing two local car clubs, and
was recently awarded an honorary lifetime membership in “Wheels
West Car Club”.
He and Shirley also enjoyed the many trips to Mesquite with g ood
friends, the Mosher clan.
DeWitt is survived by wife, Shirley; daughter, Christie, and son,
Jack; sister, Darlene Roberts; niece, Cindy (Nolan) Wilkins;
great-nephews, Chris (Jackie) Robinson; Steve (Lisa) Robinson;
great-nieces, Tiffany and Lauren Roberts; five great-great-nephews,
two great-great-nieces, and was looking forward to the arrival of a
new great-great-nephew, Track; a large extended family and many
good friends. He will be missed!
He joins his parents, and nephew, Gene Roberts in heaven.
A celebration of life will be held at New Elmwood Cemetery in
Fruita on October 4th at 2:00 p.m.
