Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 6B Obituary - December 18, 2013

July 18, 1920 - November 19, 2013
Helen Marie Lowe, age 93,
went to her Lord on November
19, 2013.
Helen was born July 18, 1920,
in Long Beach, California, to
Irene Elizabeth (Jackson) George
and Hugh George. She grew up
in Long Beach, graduating from
Long Beach Polytechnic High
School, and then had two years
of business college. Her first
job was as a secretary for an
insurance company, and during
World War II, she was secretary
for Major Ansbach at the Los
Angeles Port of Embarkation.
At the end of the war, her
brother-in-law introduced her to
a newly returned soldier, William
“Bill” M. Lowe, and they were
married July 3, 1946, at ’Wee
Kirk O’ the Heather’ in Los
Angeles, California. They lived
in North Hollywood, Glendale,
Burbank, Van Nuys, and Northridge, California before moving to
Grand Junction in 1976, when Bill retired. Her final four years were
at The Willows, in Fruita.
Helen always loved to play the piano and began accompanying
solo singers (including her sister, Clarene), and choirs when she
was still in high school. She kept up her music until about two
years ago. In California, Helen was a member of the First Christian
Church of Reseda where she was active in CWF. After moving to
Grand Junction, she and Bill joined the First Christian Church here,
and she again was involved with CWF. Her church work always
meant so much to her. She was also a member and past president
of PEO, Chapter CY and a volunteer at Cross Orchard. Gardening
was a favorite pastime her entire life, and she greatly enjoyed her
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister,
Clarene Day, and her husband, Bill. She is survived by daughter,
Bev (Mark) Goodrich of Grand Junction; son, George M. Lowe
of Ft. Worth, TX, and grandchildren, Karen (Leo) Gilbride, Grand
Junction; Grant (Caroline) Goodrich, Charleston, SC; Mara (Erik)
Olson, Grand Junction, and Brett Lowe, Ft. Worth, TX. Her greatgrandchildren
are, Liam, Brendan, and Maeve Gilbride, and Elin
and Elsa Olson.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, at 10:00
a.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, Rev. Melanie Ferron presiding.
Burial will be in the Odd Fellows section of the Orchard Mesa
Cemetery. A reception will be held at First Christian Church after
burial.
Those who wish may send memorial gifts to First Christian
Church, 1326 N. First St., Grand Junction, CO 81505 or to The
Willows, 243 N. Cherry St., Fruita, CO 81521.
