Paul Francis Cavanagh, 92,
passed away Thursday, January
30th, 2014, after a short illness.
Born August 26, 1924, in Neola,
Iowa to Hugh and Angeline West
Cavanagh, one of nine children,
he spent his childhood on the Neola
family farm.
Paul married Margaret “Peggy”
Mary Herder December 31st,
1946, in Cleveland, Ohio. Together
they had eight children.
He served in WWII in the Army
168th infantry regt. 18 stationed
in Italy. He received the Bronze
Star Medal. Paul graduated from
Iowa University with a Business
degree.
Well known as a Farm and
Ranch realtor in Grand Junction,
Paul held earlier jobs as a salesman
in Insurance, as a stockbroker
and Chamber of Commerce.
After marriage the Cavanagh’s lived in Iowa, Wyoming, and Utah
before settling in Grand Junction in 1964.
In 1968, Paul moved his family to the farm on Orchard Mesa. He
was very knowledgable in the science of irrigation and he tended
his crops and cattle well.
He was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret, and six children,
Paul F. Cavanagh Jr., Thomas J. Cavanagh, Michael (Teri)
Cavanagh, Mary F. Cavanagh, Timothy H. Cavanagh, and Sharon
L. (Dan) Geherin; 22 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death is son, James B. Cavanagh (living daughter-
in-law, Cher Cavanagh); daughter, Theresa A. Kline and daughter-
in-law, Christina M. Cavanagh.
Services will be Tuesday February 4, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Church
at 10:30 a.m. with Rosary at 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass, followed
by service at 1:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Gathering
for stories and memories at the family farm, 3011 B 1/2 Rd. following
at 2:00 p.m.
