Dale C. Maluy
January 12, 1923 - January 30, 2014
Dale died pain free and peacefully
in Rio Rancho, NM, at the age
of 91.
Lt. Colonel Maluy logged over
3,000 hours in a B-29 in the European
Theater during WWII as
a member of the 305th Bomb
Group. To his crew and associates
he was known as “Fearless Maluy”
a nickname that held true to the
time of his passing. Dale was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross
with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters.
Following his 22 years of Air Force service, Dale retired and went on to
further his education at the University of New Mexico graduating with
a Masters Degree in Southwestern History. Dale was well known for
his knowledge and lectures on the history of New Mexico and adjacent
states.
Born in Marysville, KS, he homesteaded with his parents in New
Liberty/Mack, CO. The oldest of six children, he graduated from Fruita
Union High School before enlisting, along with his brother Rex, in the
Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. The family still reminisces about the
time Dale buzzed the family’s farm in a B-17, waving to his dad, while
shocking neighbors and scaring their livestock.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Rex Maluy and Jackie Maluy,
and sister, Patty Huntley. He is survived by sisters, Wilma Walker and
Norma Klapwyk of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Wayne Scott
of Spokane, WA, and Lori Scott of Arizona.
A private internment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will occur at a
later date.
