Gene M. Callender, 60, Grand Junction, died Oct. 2, 2013, at
St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by services at 11 a.m. at Martin Mortuary. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Mr. Callender was a retired mail handler.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly T.; four sons, Casey and Gabriel, both of Clifton, Nathan of North Carolina and Matthew of California; one daughter, Kieristan Callender of Clifton; two brothers,
Darrell of Mississippi and Ralph of West Virginia; and three grandchildren.

Gene M. Callender, of Clifton Colorado, was called home to be with our Lord on October 2, 2013.
He passed away at St. Mary Hospital after a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Callender, 60, was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi on December 24, 1952, to C.E. and
Loretta Callender. He served six years in the United States Navy, and attended Orange Coast College.
On August 21, 1984, he married the love of his life, Christina Kelly Thompson. They shared 29 years raising their children and enjoying the outdoors of Colorado.
Gene enjoyed fishing, gardening, and photography. He loved life and lived each day as if it were a new adventure. His amazing sense of humor and his infectious laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife; his mother; four sons, Nathan, Matthew, Casey, and Gabriel; one daughter, Kieristan; three grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at Martin Mortuary on Thursday,
October 10, 2013, from 9 - 11:00 a.m., followed by a service celebratin g his life. He will be buried with full military honors at 1:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
