Antonio “Tony” Contreras
April 18, 1923 – October 5, 2013
Tony joined his beloved Isabel to begin their eternal life together.
He was born to Antonio Sr. and Transita Contreras in Breece,
New Mexico . He was a field worker and a logger before enlisting in the United Stated Army at the age of 19. He met and married Isabel Saiz in Bernalillo, New Mexico, which turned into 64 years of living life to the fullest. Their family was blessed with eight children.
The couple moved their family to Grants, New Mexico where they owned and operated three restaurants. Tony eventually became the Constable of Valencia County where he also volunteered as a firefighter.
The family moved from Grants to Moab, Utah, where Tony
was the Superintendent for Micro Copper Corporation before
working for the Grand County School District. He eventually retired from the school district in Moab, Utah.
Tony enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, listening and playing music, and working on his farm with his animals.
He is survived by his children, Lena (Mike) Urquarhart;
Anthony Jr. (Patti); Robert (Emily); Lupe(Tom) Domme; Walter, and Susan Merz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel, and sons, J oe (Linda) Vigil, and Dennis (Ida) Vigil.
Prayer services will begin on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. The viewing will follow from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Callahan-Edf ast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO. The memorial service will be Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at C llahan-Edfast. The procession will then be lead to the Veteran's N ational Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Antonio “Tony” Contreras Jr., 90, Grand Junction, died Oct.
5, 2013, at the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A service will be at 4 p.m. today at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary with a visitation to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Mr. Contreras worked in school maintenance.
He is survived by three sons, Tony Jr. of Sandy, Utah, Robert of Glendale, Ariz., and Walter of Moab, Utah; three daughters, Lupe Domme of Loveland, Lena Arqhaurdt of Banning, Calif., and Susan Merz of Grand Junction; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
