William Eugene Baker
July 9, 1938 – October 8, 2013
William Eugene Baker passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 8 of natural causes. He was born in Valley Mines, MO to William Franklin and Ostylee (Snyder) Baker, who both preceded him in death. William (Bill) was the oldest of three boys. The family moved from Missouri to Montrose, CO in July of 1950 where the boys attended school. Bill Graduated from Montrose High School where he was a State Champion Wrestler. He went on to Western State in Gunnison on a wrestling scholarship for one year before joining the United States Navy.
Bill married Sharon Button in Montrose, CO on May 22, 1960.
They were divorced years later. On February 18, 1972 he married Sheila Junker. They were later divorced.
Bill was retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing,
bowling, and spending time with friends and family. Bill was a
simple man who loved the simple things in life; his dog, Griz
was his pride and joy as was his horse, Cindy! He loved his Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos, he never missed a game!!!
He is survived by his two younger brothers, Robert “Bob” Baker and Gary Baker; three daughters, Debbie (Bill) Trackler, Diane (Kent) Schaneman, and Chandra Baker (Andrew); six, granddaughters, Aubrey, Elly (BJ), Kate, Whitney, Hannah and Lexa; and one great -granddaughter, Addisyn; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the Chipeta Golf Course 229 29 Road in Grand Junction on Saturday, October 19, at 2:30 p.m.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to wear Broncos and Rockies attire.
