Karl George Mayne, 73, of Conifer, passed away Sept. 29 suddenly after having a wonderful day doing what he loved by being outside and enjoying some rock art.
Karl was born on July 12, 1941, to Virl and Thelma (Childs) Mayne. Karl was best described as an accomplished high school athlete, Vietnam veteran, airline pilot, rancher, scoutmaster, historian, genealogist, a vocational archaeologist, flint knapper, silversmith, knife maker, carver, Dr. Doolittle, teacher, gold prospector, collector of classic cars; Karl was all of these things and more.
Karl is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet; children Kirk (Joanne), Kyle (Tama), Karla and Kollin; grandchildren Kristina, Ashlen, Emma, Logan, Teegan and Kage; brothers Robert, Gerald and Richard; and mother Thelma.
The funeral service will be in Gypsum on Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 934 Gypsum Creek Road. It will start at noon. Following the service, there will be a graveside presentation of military honors at 2 p.m.
For those who can’t make it to the funeral, there will be a memorial service on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. It will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7645 Malamute Drive, Evergreen, CO 80439.
