James Stewart Gill
November 15, 1946 – September 14, 2013
The love of my heart and the
man I adored left my side and this
earthly life on September 14,
2013, surrounded by many of his
friends and family.
James Stewart Gill was born
November 15, 1946, in Grand
Junction, CO to Gene Stewart and
Julia Irma Gill. Jim was part of a
large, fun-loving family of 28
Aunts and Uncles, 53 cousins, and six brothers and a sister. Ji m
lived in Colorado and Utah, where he met his first wife, Marie
Hamberlin. They were married and later divorced, but he was
blessed with three wonderful children, Gene Clayton, April Celeste,
and Julia Veniece and a step-son, Tony Meier. He was an attenti ve
father to all of them. Jim always felt he couldn't do enough fo r his
children. In May of 2007, he found and married the love of his heart,
Karen Strong Jepsen, at which time he inherited four more children,
Jessica, Kyle, Derek, and Ashley. Altogether he had 11 grandchi ldren
who were the light and joy of his life.
Jim entered basic training for the United States Navy, at the Naval
Training Center in San Diego, CA in 1966. He served aboard the
USS Cabildo and Tulare in the Vietnam conflict until 1970. Afte r
returning home from the service, he enrolled in Salt Lake Commu -
nity College with an interest in printing. He first worked for Lorraine
Press in SLC, UT. After moving to Logan he worked for Her -
ald Printing for many years, and later changed to Square One
Printing. During the 19 years he worked there, he developed man y
friendships.
For 37 years Jim enjoyed going to Mountain Man Rendezvous'. He
was known as Black Arrow to the members of the Old Ephraim
Mountain Men and Willow Creek Free Trappers organizations.
There he made many endearing and lasting friends, some of whom
he spent countless hours with hunting and creating memories.
Jim loved nature, especially the wildlife, and in the last fe w years
he spent numerous hours with his wife, Karen, traveling through the
beautiful mountains. He loved driving and going to different places,
and traveled the western states attending family reunions. He f ulfilled
his wish of traveling east of Colorado on a road trip to Louisiana.
Jim was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by hi s
mother; his children, and siblings, Tom (Nancy) Rogers; Ron (Gezzel)
Rogers; Jerry (Shelley) Gill; Nancy (Steve) Watterson; Dan ny
(Elizabeth) Gill, and his grandchildren.
Jim touched many lives with his quiet nature and friendly smi le.
Those he loved will continue to feel that love. He will be sore ly
missed and remembered forever. The love he shared with his darling
wife whom he adored, will last an eternity.
A graveside service will be held at the Orchard Mesa Veteran s
Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO, Saturday, September 21, 2013, at
