Betty Lou Cordova
May 12, 1929 – October 13, 2013
Betty Lou Cordova, loving wife,aunt, and friend, passed from her earthly life October 13, 2013, at the Hope West Hosice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO.
Betty was born May 13, 1929, to Louis and Golda (Wiley) Baker in Boyero, CO. The family found making a living on the Eastern Plains during the dustbowl years difficult and moved to the DeBeque area in 1937. They lived in a tent by the Colorado River until they could secure housing. Betty attended school in DeBeque, graduating in 1947.
Betty fell in love with a next-door neighbor, Danny Cordova, and they married August 1, 1947. The couple made their home on the Cordova family farm near Fruita. Betty and Danny raised sheep and she also worked at the Kress Five & Dime Store, Woolworth's and the Fruita Co-op.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her extended family, which included 11 brothers and sisters, ten brothers and sisters-in-law s and many nieces and nephews. She was known for her culinary talents, not the least of which were large pans of delicious cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed arts and crafts and, in her later years, created a wide variety of adorable characters made from stones glued together and painted.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, and ten brothers and sisters. Betty is survived by one sister, Louise (Baker) Crandell of Rifle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Octo ber 19, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with a celebration of Betty's life following at Canyon View Vineyard Church, 736 24 1?2 Rd., Grand Junction.
