Obituaries

Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 7 B Obituary - April 28, 2013

Joseph “Joe” was born December
5th, 1948, to Mary and Lewis
Eugene Lehr in Pueblo, Colorado.
He grew up with his sister Cathy
and graduated from Central High
School in 1966.
Following graduation he was inducted
into the US Army, and
served honorably for 18 months
in Vietnam. Among his many
medals honoring his service was the Army Commendation Medal
"V" Device, "V" for Valor, solely to denote "participation in acts of
heroism involving conflict with an armed enemy".
In 1979, Joe moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where along with
his sister, Cathy, opened Peachtree True Value Hardware. Later Joe
was instrumental in the addition of a lumber division that still exists
today. His many skills and inventiveness in designing systems at the
store are still being used today.
He truly enjoyed his years at Peachtree True Value and went on to
enjoy retirement as well. Among his hobbies were drag racing, auto
mechanics, boating, and fishing. He had a unique ability to design,
fix or build anything and he also had a unique sense of humor. He
was a good man and will be sorely missed.
Joe is survived by his mother, Mary; wife, Elaine; two sons, Joe
(Lisa) Lehr, and Kevin (Tiffany) Eardley, and sister Cathy (Bob )
Frederick, and two nieces, Debbie (Clarke) Scott, and Jennifer (Dan)
Dunn.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 30, at 10:00 a.m. at
the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe can be sent to the
Community Living Center at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center
2121 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
