James Bernard McDonald

Jim McDonald of Grand Junction, CO, died March 23rd at the age of 91.
He was born to James and Agnes McDonald on October 9th, 1922, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the fourth of eight children.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a P.O.W. in Germany and was awarded a Purple Heart. After the war he returned home and married Dolores M. Evans and helped raise five children.
Jim taught engineering at the University of Pittsburgh and co-owned two engineering firms, producing the structural design for the unique St. Sebastian’s Church in Pittsburgh.
In 1974 he and his family moved to Colorado and he started work for Martin Marietta. He also taught engineering at the University of Colorado. After losing his wife to cancer in 1981, he remarried in 1985 to Zee Seberg. They moved to Grand Junction in 2001 where they enjoyed traveling and sharing the company of their neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Zee (daughter, Julie Brown) and his children, Diane Sawatzki (Jim); Robert (Liz) and their daughter, Lisa Marie Smith; Cathy; Gary (Carolyn) and their children, Erin, Michael and Lauren; and Kevin (Cindi) and their children, Scott and Kelli.
Services will be held in Denver at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, on Friday, May 2nd at 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial and reception at Pinehurst Country Club, 6255 W. Quincy Avenue, at 3:00 p.m.
