Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 3D Obituary - November 16, 2014

Dr. Hugh S. Richards, age 93,
passed away on October 20, 2014,
at HopeWest Hospice. He practiced
family medicine for 28 years
in Steamboat Springs. He enjoyed
his patients, and spent many hours
delivering their babies, repairing
broken bones, treating their illness,
and listening patiently to
their concerns.
He enjoyed the opportunities for sports and exercise in Steamboat.
Swimming was his passion and he presided over the renovation of the
pool and served on the board for many years. Many will remember
him, as he biked to work in the summer. Skiing, hiking, fishing, backpacking,
and camping with friends and family were his favorite activities.
He was the Steamboat Springs junior high and high school sports
doctor for many years.
Hugh and his wife, Bertie, left Steamboat in 1978, to move to Saudi
Arabia, where he was an American Doctor treating ex-patriots, working
for Saudi Aramco Oil Co. While there, they traveled extensively,
seeing many different countries. After seven and one half years, they
returned to the States, and Hugh retired from the practice of medicine.
His time was filled with auditing classes at CMU, and hours spent with
his telescope, studying the stars, and plenty of time for masters swimming.
He leaves a legacy of seven children, Hugh III, Bruce, Tom, Pamela,
Marianne, Greg, and Ann; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren,
his wife, Bertie, and one brother, John.
A celebration of life will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on November
28th, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Redlands
Community Center, 2463 Broadway, Grand Junction.
