Fern D. Straney of Grand Junction, CO died peacefully at Mesa Manor
Nursing Home May 3, 2014.
Fern was the third of five children born to Wynn Theodore Cummings
and Audrey Burr Cummings in Sublette, Kansas. Her sister, Marjorie
Myrick, is still living in Minneola, KS.
She met her husband, Robert Eugene Straney, when her family moved
to Bloom, Kansas after her freshman year in high school. They married
September 7, 1946, after Robert returned from service in Europe
during World War II. During the war, Fern worked with Robert’s cousin,
Arlene Andrews, at the Ordnance Works in Lawrence, KS before
attending the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
Fern and Robert raised two daughters, Pamela S. Trulson and Robin
D. Neal. They have a granddaughter, Jessica Lauren Roettjer.
Fern and Robert moved to Grand Junction from Phoenix, AZ in
1975. She was active in Newcomers Club, ITC and First Presbyterian
Church. She worked for several years at Johnson’s House of Flowers.
Fern enjoyed playing golf with her husband, family and friends. She
was a skilled seamstress and cook who also loved to sing, read and
travel.
A memorial service will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary at 1:30
p.m. Friday May 9.

Fern D. Straney, 88, Grand Junction, died May 3, 2014, at Mesa
Manor Care Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary,
followed by burial at 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of
Western Colorado.
Survivors include husband her Robert; two daughters, Pamela
Trulson and Robin Neal, both of Glendale, Arizona; one sister, Marjorie
Myrick of Minneola, Kansas; and one grandchild.
