Ottilee Justine (Brandenburg) Insko
July 2, 1922 - April 18, 2014
Ottilee passed out of this life and into Heaven on April 18, 2014, at HopeWest Hospice in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Ottilee’s father, Arch Brandenburg, traveled by covered wagon to Greasy Creek, Arkansas where he married Cora Cornett in 1904. Ottillee had four much older siblings, Nettie, Pete, Gene, and Carl. Nettie found the name, Ottilee, in a novel and mom was always proud that she had an unusual name. Her family, lived on a farm and were the rural poor, food but no money. Orval Faubus, her teacher, said mom was the smartest student in the whole school and she remembered how she beat all the other students in a spelling bee. Ottillee graduated from St. Paul High School where she sang in an octet and played basketball. Her mother died when she was 20, and she left Arkansas and eventually landed in Fullerton, California, where she lived with her life long friends, Bonnie, Connie, and June Faubus.
She eventually went to work at MacDonald Douglas during the war.
There she met Robert “Bob” Insko on what she said was the luckiest day of her life. They married in 1945, and shared 60 years together.
They raised three daughters, and enjoyed traveling, gardening, friends, and family. Ottilee worked twelve years at Lakeman’s Market in Fullerton, which made her friends with just about everyone in town. Bob
and Ottilee were long time members of State College Church of Christ in Anaheim.
Ottilee’s health declined after Bob’s passing in 2006, and she lived her last four years in Grand Junction, Colorado with her daughter, Sherry and son-in-law, Bryan Crowe.
Ottilee is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Bryan) Crowe, and granddaughters, Erin, Amber, and Ashley Crowe; grandson, Brenton Hancok; great-grandchildren, Jordon, Neal and Nicki Hancock. Ottilee was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; daughter, Linda Lee; two day old daughter, Carol Lee Hancok, and daughter, Robin Renee Insko.
A celebration of life will be held at Memory Gardens in Brea, California on April 26, at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to HopseWest Hospice, Grand Junction.
