Jack L. Hunt
March 20, 1942 - April 21, 2014
Our beloved Jack began a new adventure on April 21, 2014. Jack was born March 20, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, Texas to T-bone and Fay Hunt. His early childhood was spent in Texas, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado with his family settling in Grand Junction, in 1958. Jack graduated from Grand Junction High in 1961, and Mesa College in 1963.
In Jack’s own words he married “the girl of his dreams” Karen Covey, on November 21, 1963, and they moved to Fort Collins for him to attend Colorado State University. attend Colorado State University. During his senior year he was in a car accident that left him unable to speak due to a head injury, but that injury did not deter him from returning to CSU and graduating in 1969 with a degree in Physics.
Jack and Karen moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Jack worked as a mechanical engineer at GE Aircraft Engine Group on the SST Engine for two years. He then accepted a position with the US Government Dept. of Labor as an industrial hygienist and retired in 2005, after 36 years of service. He loved taking his boat on the Ohio River and traveling to the houseboat at Lake Cumberland, KY. It was difficult leaving their close friends but Grand Junction was calling.
Jack and Karen bought a motor home, packed up and moved back to Grand Junction for the retirement years however life turned out differently than planned.
Three years ago, Jack had a ladder fall and suffered another head injury which left him in a wheelchair. He endured many months of therapy and managed to keep that amazing spirit and his captivating smile. He inspired all around him and never complained about what life had placed upon him. Jack was able to accomplish everything he wanted to in life and in death. We are mourning and celebrating at the same time. The loss we feel is overwhelming but we will try to follow his example of being strong and accepting.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. 2 Timothy 4-7. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Karen; brothers, Bob Hunt of Grand Junction, and Dale (Twila) Hunt of Mesquite, NV; sister, Jan (Mike) Frick of Grand Junction; mother-in-law, Jeanne Covey of Grand Junction, and sister-in-law, Candy (Rick) Brodel of Hotchkiss, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
