Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 9B Obituary - May 28, 2014

Samuel Harry “Barney” Davis
went to Heaven, on May 8, 2014,
with the loving staff at the Veterans
Community Living Center by
his side.
Barney was born on August 28,
1922, to Harry Bolyn and Florence
Emma Davis. He was a life-long
member of the Palisade community.
He graduated from Palisade High School and joined the United
States Navy, shortly afterward. When asked how long he was in the
Navy he would answer quickly, “three years, three months, and ten
days”.
Barney remained in Palisade and worked many different jobs, often
commenting that he was hired to work from his neck down! He felt
that his most important job was raising his family, peaches, and roses.
One year Barney and Ruth won, “Yard of the Year,” of which he was
very proud.
Barney got his nickname from an old-time race-car-driver named,
Barney Oldfield. It seems that his driving antics around Palisade were
deserving of the title.
Barney and Ruth were dealt a blow when they lost their son, Doug,
in a car accident. Without the support of his community and his peach
orchard, some doubt that he would have made it. He always asked three
questions: How is Mom, how are all the kids, and how are the peaches!
Barney was a humble, patriotic, and hard-working man. We will all
remember his quick wit and his many “Barney-isms,” as his family
likes to call them.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth; daughters, Jane McFarland
and Dina Fitzpatrick; grandchildren, Traci Allen, Holly Boulton,
Mike McFarland, April Momo, and Tyler Hall. He also leaves nine
great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m., at
the Palisade United Methodist Church. Interment will be held privately,
at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to
the Community Living Center (Hospice), at the VA Hospital, in Grand
Junction, or to the Palisade United Methodist Church.
Services are entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
