Mr. Lachner was a major in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by one son, Gerald of Omaha, Nebraska; one
daughter, Deborah R. Steele of Palisade; five grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren.

Gerald O. Lachner, Major, USAF,
Retired, “Joe”, age 91, went to
work in Heaven, on June 29, 2014.
The family will celebrate his life,
and their memories together, at his
home, this week.
Joe was born September 26,
1922, in Tipton, Missouri, to Jim
and Pearl Lachner. After serving in
the Army Air Corp, in the South Pacific, during WWII, he returned to
school, and graduated with a degree in Chemistry, from Central Missouri
State College. While working as a chemist in Chicago, IL, Joe
was recalled by the Air Force for the Korean War. Joe was offered a
commission in the Air Force, where he proudly served, for a total of
27 years. He loved to tell stories about his long career, to his family
and friends. When he retired in 1973, he and Mattie settled in Palisade,
Colorado, where he grew peaches, and later raised cattle.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mattie (Bayne)
Lachner.
He was survived by one son, Jerry Lachner, Lt.Col., USAF, Retired,
(Judi), of Papillion, Nebraska; a daughter, Debbie Steele, of Palisade,
CO, and one sister, Jane Edwards, of Tipton, MO. He is also survived
by five grandchildren, Seth Lachner (Deborah), of Papillion, NE; Jay
Lachner (Marie), of Papillion, NE; Tara Lemon (Matt), of Palisade,
CO; Jake Steele (Domenica), of Palisade, CO, and Bethany Cowan
(Michael), of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He will also be missed by his
18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions, in his name and memory, may be made to
HopeWest Hospice & Palliative Care.
