Winifred “Winnie” Keith, was
born nearly 100 years ago in Galt,
Missouri; a self-proclaimed “Daddy’s
Girl” who unfortunately lost
her father at age eight.
Winnie married at 17 and had two
sons, Kent and Larry. Soon after
Larry’s birth Winnie was diagnosed
with a brain tumour and divorced
husband, Wayne Anderson.
For health reasons she was urged to move to a drier climate, so in 1939
she moved to Roswell, New Mexico, entrusting her two sons to family.
After regaining her health she met the love of her life, Herbert Keith,
an Air Force officer stationed there. They were married in 1943, and
Herb shipped out while Winnie moved to Massachusetts to live with
her in-laws and sons for the duration of WWII. As an Air Force wife,
she resided in South Dakota, Nebraska, Japan, Germany and Washington,
DC. In 1969, she and Herb moved to Aiken, South Carolina, where
they enjoyed an active retirement golfing and travelling. In 2005, they
made one final move to Grand Junction, taking up residence at Mesa
View. Herb preceded Winnie in death in 2008.
Survivors include two sons, Kent (Meredith) of Grand Junction,
and Larry (Joan) of Nantucket, MA; five grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were two grandchildren
and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24 at Callahan-
Edfast Mortuary. Private interment will be at Veterans Memorial
Cemetery of Western Colorado.
Memorial contributions to HopeWest Hospice.
