Former Eagle resident Alan Donald Wells, died Jan. 28 after a fire at his home in Clifton. An electrical fire resulting from an old switch on the front porch light is suspected to be the cause of the fire.

Alan and his twin brother Robert were born on June 23, 1961 in Denver. His family moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where they lived for seven years before returning to Littleton, where Alan graduated from high school.

He completed a professional chef education program at the Carnegie Culinary Institute in New York leading to the Executive Chef position at many restaurants in Denver including Pasquanels and Baby Doe's.

In 1986, Alan moved to the Eagle Valley and continued his career at the Charter at Beaver Creek, the Poste Montane and the Holiday Inn at Vail. He also ran the bakery at City Market in Avon for several years. Alan eventually changed careers, becoming a master electrician. He owned his own business, South Paw Electric and worked throughout the valley.

Alan loved working with wood, rafting and fishing. He enjoyed tying his own flies. No one could "read a river" better than Alan. He was passionate about the outdoors, loved the beach and loved being on the water under any conditions. More than anything, Alan loved spending time with his children, Nicole, 17, and Timothy, 12. He was a devoted father.

Alan left Eagle last year and purchased a home in Clifton a block away from his twin brother. Alan had just finished building two new bedrooms for the kids on the lower level of the house.

He is survived by his children, Nicole and Timothy of Eagle; parents Alfred and Helen Wells of Littleton; older brother David Wells of Littleton; twin brother Robert Wells of Clifton; sister Carol and brother-in-law Jim Ringer of Littleton; two nephews, Calvin and Jake; and his friend and ex-wife, Claudia, of Eagle.

Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 2 at Gracious Savior Lutheran Church in Edwards, Colorado. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., with the service following at 11 a.m. A lunch will follow at the Brush Creek Pavilion.
