Grand Junction Daily Sentinel page 3D Obituary - December 15, 2013

January 13, 1918 - December 10, 2013
Bart, born in Pollock, Missouri, passed away at Emeritus at Roslyn
in Denver, Colorado. He and his wife Virginia had moved to Denver
from Grand Junction in June, 2013 to be closer to family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia, as well
as by his parents, Harry and Mary (Daly) Bartimus; three brothers
and three sisters; his adopted daughter, Jerri Dorr; the daughter of
his first wife, Betty; grandson, Mike Doty, and great-grandson,
Adonis Jones.
Bart is survived by his sister, Pauline Strong; many nieces and
nephews; grandchildren, Ron (Jackie) Doty, and Linda (Ed)
Widman; great-grandchildren, Shaylon and Shasta Doty; Chris
(Christine) Widman, and Adam, Michael and Elise Widman.
Although Bart never had children of his own, he was a wonderful
father to Virginia’s daughters, Pam (Joe) Gorski; Patty (Jon) Kent,
and Paula (Kevin) Molick; grandfather to Jeff (Jenny) Gorski;
Paul (Crystal) Gorski; Jill Gorski (Brian Smalley); Chris Geddes
(Mary Klute); Stephanie Quintana; Simone Valdez, Peter and Alex
Molick; great-grandpa to Ashlyn and Preston Gorski; Grey Gorski;
Taelyn and Maddox Edwards; and Ian Geddes.
Bart served as a United States Merchant Marine from May, 1943
until August, 1945. For most of his adult life, Bart was in the
construction business, much of the time in the Denver metro area.
He also built many churches and post offices throughout Colorado.
Bart never really retired, as he was a handyman to many in the
Grand Junction area into his late 80’s.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting, plus he
was an avid gardener, having a large garden every year in Grand
Junction until he and Virginia moved away. Feeding and watching
the birds and squirrels brought him joy, especially while living in
Denver. And always, Bart enjoyed a Manhattan at toddy time!
Bart’s ashes will be placed next to Virginia’s at the Arvada
Cemetery in Arvada, Colorado. A memorial will be held at a date
yet to be determined in Grand Junction for both Bart and Virginia.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at
Emeritus at Roslyn who cared for both Bart and Virginia in the
months since moving to Denver. Memorial donations may be made
to the Resident Family Council at Roslyn (RFCR), c/o Emeritus at
Roslyn, 2500 S Roslyn Street, Denver, CO 80231 or to a charity of
your choice.
