Margaret Maynard was born to
Emma Federlein and Richard Watters
August 19, 1913 in
Atalissa, Iowa and died May 26,
at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation
and Care Center.
She graduated high school in
Iowa and received a degree in Dietetics
and Institutional Food
Management from Iowa State University
class of 1934, Ames, Iowa. She received a dietetic
internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and later was
employed there.
Margaret married Thomas Maynard in 1935. He died in 1977.
She is survived by her three children, Richard (Jan) Maynard of Grand
Junction; Mari Carroll of Westport, CT, and Martiey Miller of Minneapolis,
MN. She is also survived by six
grandchildren, Megan (Steve) Watson, Trumbull, CT; Brooke (Chris)
Lovas, Norwalk, CT; Michelle Ross (Matt) Portland, OR; Krista (Pete)
Benedetti, Cherry Hills Village, CO; Erin (Gary) Sakryd, Parker,
CO, and Becca (Drew) Damiano, Cherry Hills Village, CO and ten
great-grandchildren, Devon and Graeme Watson; Evelyn and Ben Lovas;
Blake and Brett Benedetti; Hailey and Hanna Sakryd, and Emerson
and Sutton Damiano.
Before moving to Grand Junction in 1977, the Maynard’s lived in
New York City, Birmingham, AL., Chicago and Cambridge, IL., Rocky
River, OH. and Minneapolis, MN. While
living in Cambridge, she spent two years as a teacher at the last one
room school in the state of Illinois teaching 12 children in grades one
through eight. Margaret served as a clinical dietician for several large
hospitals and worked locally as a dietician for the Senior Nutrition Program
(Grey Gourmet). She was a member of the 1st Congregational
Church having served two terms as moderator. She was a member of
the American and Western Colorado Dietetic Associations.
Cremation has taken place. Margaret and Tom will be buried in West
Liberty, Iowa. A memorial service will be held this summer.
In lieu of flowers Margaret wished memorials be made to the First
Congregational Church, Grand Junction.
The Maynard family would like to thank the TCU staff at Mantey
Heights for the kindness and tender care they provided Margaret over
the past two and a half years.
