Steamboat Today - January 23, 2015

Conrad Hazelbaker, of Craig, passed away on Wed., January 21, 2015, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO. He was 81. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thurs., January 29, 2015, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Craig. Burial will follow at Craig Cemetery. Kenneth Conrad Hazelbaker was born the son of Hosea Bud and L. May (Steinmetz) Hazelbaker on October 13, 1933, in Meeker, CO. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Meeker. He furthered his education at Mesa State College in Grand Junction. Following college, Conrad honorably served his country with the United States Army. On January 9, 1957, Conrad married Dorothyann Williams at the Dan Forth Chapel in Ft. Collins, CO. To this union, three children were born. The family resided in several areas including: Meeker, Craig and Steamboat Springs. Conrad and Dorothyann had the honor of celebrating 58 years of marriage this month. Conrad was a hardworking man all his life. He served as the undersheriff for Rio Blanco County, then a Colorado State Patrolman out of Craig for 7 years. He later accepted a position with Yampa Valley Electric; serving over 30 years with the company. When he was younger, Conrad enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golfing. He was an avid sports fan who loved to cheer for his favorite teams. More importantly, he was a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather who cherished and idolized his grandchildren. Conrad is survived by his wife, Dorothyann of Craig; one son, Kevin Conrad Hazelbaker of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters, Kimarie Hazelbaker of Steamboat Springs, CO and Debbie (Foster) Beckett of Craig, CO; and one sister, Beverly (Dick) Prosence of Meeker, CO.; two grandchildren, Hannah and Colby Beckett of Craig, CO. Conrad was preceded in death by his brother, Clayton Hazelbaker; a niece, Britney Williams; and his parents. Memorial donations may be made to Craig Visibility in c/o Grant Mortuary.
