Jack William Drake, 89, Grand Junction, died Dec. 12, 2013, at
the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospice.
No services are planned.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Alice of Grand Junction; two
sons, Steven and Edwin; one daughter, Catherine Drake; and one
grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Junction CLC
Hospice Fund, 2121 North Ave, Grand Junction 81502.

On December 12th, after a short
illness, Jack, 89, passed away
peacefully in his sleep at the VA
Hospital.
Jack was born September 17,
1924, in Green River, Utah to
Ruby and Albert Drake. He is
preceded in death by his parents;
brothers, Gerald, Alvin and Ray;
sister, Louise; his beloved aunt,
Margaret Johnston, and his friend and father-in-law, Frank Johnson.
After schooling in Green River, Jack joined the Navy in 1943. He
served with the 116th Naval Construction Battalion in the Asiatic
Pacific theatre. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he located in
Grand Junction where he married and raised a family.
Jack Drake was proud of being a husband, father, Elk, Navy
Seabee, and being of service to his community.
He met Frances Johnson November 1st, 1946. They married
March 30, 1947, and spent the next 66 years laughing, dancing,
raising children and enjoying each other’s company.
Jack is survived by his wife, Frances, and three children, Catherine,
Steven (Loretta), and Edwin, and a grandson, Blake.
Jack joined Grand Junction Elks Lodge in 1946 (67years). Three
times he was Elk of the Year. He enjoyed volunteering at the
Veterans Hospital helping fellow vets. He was also a member of the
Eagles Lodge #595 and a Boy Scout mentor.
Jack was a lifetime master carpenter. He enjoyed traveling the US
with Frances to attend Seabee reunions, and visiting with his many,
many friends. Jack’s acquaintances often became good friends
because of his generosity, witty humor and willingness to offer a
helping hand.
Jack’s wishes are that there be no memorial service but would like
you to reflect on your fond memories of him and remember others
who need service and assistance, then give it.
Our family would like to thank the many people who cared for him
at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the
VA CLC/Hospice Fund at Customer Relations Department, 2121
North Avenue.
