Frances Clapp, 91, of Charlotte,
formerly of Falls Church, VA,
Elkhart, IN, and Grand Junction,
CO, passed away on December
11, 2013.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; her husband, Richard
E. Clapp; sister, Katherine Jones;
brother, Carmen D. Jones, and
her beloved German Shepherd, Sandy.
Mrs. Clapp was born on March 30, 1922, in Matewan, WV,
daughter of the late W. Guy Jones and Virginia Ross Jones Davis.
As a small child she moved with her family to Roanoke, VA. After
graduation from Jefferson High School (Roanoke), she moved to
Washington, D.C. where she met and married her husband. Her
children and nieces were the light of her life; she was a tireless
volunteer/leader of the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the youth group
at her church, and was an avid gardener who could get anything
to grow. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and pottery making. In the
early 1960’s, she became a certified Foot Reflexologist and enjoyed
a large clientele for nearly 40 years in VA, IN, and CO.
She is survived by her children, Judith Thomas and husband, Mark
of Charlotte; Alan Clapp and wife, Marie of Frederick, MD, and
Jeanne Hanes and husband, Larry of Arlington, VA; grandchildren,
Elizabeth Thomas of Matthews; Trevor Thomas of Charlotte; Bryan
Clapp and wife, Jo of California, MD; Diana Clapp of Baltimore,
MD; Emily Birch of Seattle, WA; Jeffrey Thomas and wife,
Katherine of Elkhart, IN, and David Thomas of Kannapolis, NC.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice
and Palliative Care of South Charlotte and Emeritus at Eastover
for their loving care during her illness and the prayer group at St.
John’s Episcopal Church for their prayers and support.
A private memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal
Church at a later date. Burial will be in Grand Junction, CO,
alongside her husband and mother.

Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street,
Charlotte, NC 28204 or St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel
Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.
