Jennie Sunich died Saturday, June
28, 2014, at Paonia Care and Rehab
Center. She was 97.
Jennie was born in Somerset,
CO on May 3rd, 1917, to Anton
and Mary (Bole) Penko. She
married Joseph Sunich on April
13th, 1941, in Crested Butte, CO.
They had one son, Robert Joseph
Sunich, born in 1943.
Jennie lived in the house she and her 12 siblings were born in until
moving to Paonia Care in 2011. She enjoyed her garden and cooking
Slovenian meals for her family. She also loved to crochet.
She is survived by her son, Robert Sunich of Paonia; two sisters, Mary
Majnik of Grand Junction, and Polly McKeel of Sherwood, OR; three
brothers, Tony (Lucille) Penko of Grand Junction; Frank (Glenna)
Penko of Dixon, CA, and John Penko of Denver; two grandchildren,
Allyson Conley of Lakewood, CO, and Melany Propp of Lakewood,
CO, and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lane Conley of Lakewood;
Duncan and Mason Propp of Lakewood, and Kaitie, Brandyn,
and Krystie Miller of Peoria, AZ, and their father, Ray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1991; granddaughter,
Jenifer Miller in 2008; and daughter-in-law, Sherry Sunich in 2013.
A memorial service will be held at Taylor Funeral Home in Paonia on
Saturday, July 5th, at 10:00 a.m. She will be interned at the Somerset
Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living
Word Lutheran Church, 2820 Peyton Drive, Montrose, CO 81401.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service
and Crematory.

Survivors include one son, Robert of Paonia; two sisters, Mary

and seven grandchildren.
