Then God sent her angel wings and she flew away to Heaven. Eckert, Colorado resident, Doris M. Moore, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, Colorado. She was 92 years of age.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Palisade Christian Church.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2014, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Legion Hall in Craig, Colorado. The family requests the dress code to be Bronco shirts and blue jeans.
Doris Mildred Binkley was born on May 15, 1922, to Earl Termaine and Bertha (Mead) Binkley in Grand Junction, Colorado. She spent her childhood in Grand Junction where she graduated from high school.
Doris has been a resident of Eckert, Colorado the past three years where she lived as a blessing to her daughter and son-in-law. Before that, she resided in Craig, Colorado.
Doris was a member of the First Christian Church of Craig, Colorado.
Like her father, they believed their Church was anywhere and everywhere they could worship their Lord.
Doris’ love of helping others started at a very young age. She was a member of the Riverside Women’s Service Club in Grand Junction, Colorado. Throughout her children’s school years, she supported them by being involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Band Parents, PTA and anything else that she could do to enhance their lives. She was so proud of the fact that two of her sons and one grandson made the rank of Eagle Scout.
After her children left her nest to begin their lives, she started a career as a volunteer at the Craig Memorial Hospital. She loved helping others, from taking pictures of the newborn babies to giving directions the gift shop.
When she retired, she had worked 37 years and had volunteered about 22,000 hours.
Doris loved to bake and make candies. She entered her “Angel Food Cake” in the county fair where she received a box full of ribbons, most of them blue and grand champion. Her children all loved it when she was baking for the fair, we got to eat all the cakes she “rejected”. For many years, she baked each child in her family an “Angel Food Cake” for their birthday.
She was an avid Bronco fan, there were posters, footballs and Bronco bears all around her home. Her home was never quiet when there was a game on the TV. Her children took her to Denver to several games which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Doris is survived by her three sons, Daniel (Carol) Moore and Stanley (Janice) Moore, all of Craig, Colorado; and Steve (Christy) Moore of Grand Junction; her daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Wingfield of Eckert, Colorado; a sister, Alice Else of Grand Junction, Colorado; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Howard, Jack and Marvin Binkley; a sister, Muriel Kennedy and a brother-in-law, Delos Else.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to MS Research or Macular Degeneration Research in memory of Doris and in
honor of Steve Moore and Jessica Lampshire.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
