4, 2014, at Palisade Living Center.
He was a lifelong resident of
the Valley. He worked many jobs,
including coal-mining, uranium-
mining, and, last, but not least,
his work with District 51. He is
still referred to as “Mr. Stanton,”
by many who knew him from school.
He married the love of his life on January 6, 1937, in Grand Junction.
They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, just prior to her passing
in 2012.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lilly Stanton; his
wife, Elsie; two sisters, and his son-in-law, Melvin Huff.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Huff; grandson, Charles Huff
(Vanessa); granddaughter, Melody Huff; great-grandchildren, Nycholas,
Kyle, Ryan, and Mytchell; brother-in-law, John Klemencic; sisterin-
law, Agnes (Dave Feil), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Charles was proud of his service in the Marines during World War
II. After his military training in San Diego, he went on to serve four
years, in the South Pacific. He received the purple heart. He witnessed
the second flag being raised in Iwo Jima and he was one of the guards
for the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. He was a proud
member of the American Legion. His favorite pastime was fishing on
Grand Mesa.
A visitation will be held this Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 6 – 8:00
p.m., at the Palisade Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services, with
military honors, will be held this Thursday, July 10, 2014, beginning
at 10:00 a.m., at Palisade Municipal Cemetery, with Father Will, presiding.
