Alta E. Harrah
September 11, 1935 - August 11, 2014
The Lord Jesus took Delta resident, Alta Elizabeth Harrah, 78, to her eternal home on August 11, 2014. She died from a long illness with complications caused from pneumonia.
A funeral service honoring Alta’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at All Saints Lutheran Church in Austin, Colorado. Burial will follow at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta.
Alta Elizabeth Rover was born to Herman and Elizabeth (Pagles) Rover on September 11, 1935, in Greene, Iowa. Alta had one brother, Dale Rover; and three sisters, Irene (Cecil) Stanbrough of Greene, IA; DeLores Osborne of Sunter, SC, and LaVonne Walters of Presque Isle, ME.
Alta met Marvin Harrah at the age of 12 in Greene, Iowa. Marvin told her then that he would marry her one day. Six years later, the couple were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 26, 1954. They celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage this year. Alta enjoyed sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, and especially motorcycling.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washburn, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greene, Iowa. After moving to Colorado in 1972, Alta and Marvin were charter members at All Saints Lutheran Church, in Austin, Colorado, where they are still members.
Alta worked as a nurses aide at La Porte City. After moving she received her CAN and worked at Bethesda Nursing Home in Delta, Colorado. She also did private home health.
Alta is survived by her husband, Marvin Harrah of Delta; three children, Brad (LuAnn) Harrah of Grand Junction, CO; Mitch Harrah of Delta, CO, and Connie (Steve) Herrera of Delta, CO; granddaughter, Kree (Burt) Vincelette; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Della all of Grand Junction, CO; grandson, Hans (Melissa) Herrera; three great-grandchildren, Holly, Deagan, and Julian (one baby on the way) all of Grand Junction, CO; granddaughter, Ceirra Herrera (Mark) O’Haryre; two great-grandchildren, JP and TJ all of Billings, MT; granddaughter, Cassey Herrera (Chris Goddard), and great-granddaughter, Ava Herrera Jones.
Alta was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale Rover, and two brothers-in-law, Dennis and Robert.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Alta’s memoryto the All Saints Lutheran Church, 20101 Deer Creek Rd., Austin, CO 81410.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
