William Henry Milne.

DURHAM – William Henry Milne, 95, long time resident of Contoocook passed away on March 10, 2015 at Harmony Homes in Durham with family members by his side. He was born on July 2, 1919 in Bristol, CT, eldest child of Janet (Henry) and William Milne. Bill grew up in Barre, Vermont, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Vermont in 1943. He later received his MA in Education from UNH in 1954.
Bill was a World War II veteran, having served as a United States Army Signal Corps Cryptographer attached to the 20th Air Force in the South Pacific. He moved to Contoocook in 1947 to teach social studies at Hopkinton High School. In 1951 Bill became principal of Hopkinton High School and he served in that capacity until 1973. After that he worked for the New Hampshire Department of Education on the Voucher Project and the School Lunch Program.
While teaching at Hopkinton High, Bill met and married Doris (White) Milne. After 61 years of marriage, Doris predeceased him on October 5, 2012. Bill is survived by his daughter Kathryn Treamer and husband Matthew of Lancaster; three sons, William Jr. of Barrington; Robert and wife Laurie of Steamboat, Co; and Jonathan and wife Cindy of Newmarket; and 7 grandchildren, Zachary and Katryn Treamer, Jonathan and Patrick Milne, Indigo, Oriah and William Milne III.
Bill enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, working crossword puzzles, cheering for the Yankees, yearly family vacations in York, Maine and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and musical performances.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 13 from 4-7pm at Bennett Funeral Home in Concord. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Concord on Saturday, March 14 at 12:30 pm. Burial with military honors will occur in the spring at Contoocook Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Life Choice Hospice, 65 Lafayette Road, Suite 302, North Hampton, NH 03862.
